Touring the Dead Sea region

Touring the Dead Sea region

Dead Sea and Masada Tours

Masada & Dead sea Tours

The Dead Sea is the lowest point on Earth and it offers a multitude of sites, attractions and leisure options.  The low barometric pressure as well as the brome emanating from the sea has a beneficial influence on the visitor.

In this area there are several sites mentioned in the Bible, interesting for Jewish and Christian visitors at the same time.

The Dead Sea is mentioned for the first time in King Salomon’s era, referring to the commerce in asphalt emitted from the sea.  It has been used for different purposes such as: medicine, embalming, waterproofing of boats.

The flora of the region

The persimmon bush indigenous in the area is the source of the persimmon fragrance, a balsam that was a precious commodity in ancient times.

This product was a closely kept secret. The famous mosaic floor of the ancient Ein Gedi synagogue mentions the spell to be cast on whoever reveals it.

Several important natural reserves located in the Dead Sea area are recommended to visit.

The Qumran National Park

Researches indicate that the sect of the Judean Desert, the Sadducees, lived and functioned here after their ousting from High Priesthood.  The sect lived under severe rules, observing the laws of Defilement and Purity.

There are numerous ritual baths around the site.

Christian tradition holds that John the Baptist was here also and tried to be accepted by the sect.  When he left he transferred his field of action to Qasr-el-Yahud.

Quasr-el-Yahud

The site was restored and made accessible.  According to Jewish tradition the Sons of Israel crossed the Jordan at this point entering the Holy Land,

The Christian tradition designates this place as the site where John has baptized the first Believers.  The focal point of his activity here was the Baptism of Jesus.

Ein Feshkha Nature Reserve

This green nature reserve is located on the shore of the Dead Sea.  Touring the Dead Sea region includes a special tour of this unique site.

Experience the coastal flora, fresh potable and salt water and endemic fish species among others.  Swimming pool as well as barbeque facilities are at the disposal of visitors.

Ein Gedi Nature Reserve

The most visited nature reserve in Israel, with plenty of points of interest and possibilities.

Visit to this lush green reserve, the waterfalls, springs, the archeological site and the ancient synagogue.  Several trails for hikers are at disposal, the choice depending on the fitness of the visitor.

Nahal Arugot located within the Nature Reserve can be visited in the framework of a separate tour.

Masada National Park

Masada is a fortified town, one of the gigantic constructions brought into existence under the reign of King Herod.  The site is accessible on foot along the Snake Path or by cable car leading to the top.

Masada features numerous important sites and it is recommended to allot sufficient time in order to make the best of all it has to offer.

There are several palaces, baths, mosaics, an ancient synagogue, columbary and more to be visited.  Visiting the Chamber of Destiny should not be left out.

It is recommended while Touring the Dead Sea Region to incorporate visiting one of the beaches in the hotels’ area.  The enjoyment of bathing in this water rich in minerals is a unique experience.

For those interested in treatment in one of the hotels’ spas an appointment can be made in advance.

For trekking enthusiasts this region offers a vast choice of attractive trails suitable for different levels of difficulty.

An unforgettable event awaits those who participate in a night trip to view the limestone formations of Masada.
