Mount Moriya
According to tradition the Binding of Isaac took place on Mount Moriya. Mount Moriya is identified also as the Temple Mount. Later on King David has built the site of his reign in the City of David near Temple Mount. It is believed that he was buried on Mount Zion.
The building of the magnificent Temple on Temple Mount is attributed to King Solomon, his son. It has involved the work of thousands of builders during several years and also vast amounts of money. This was one of the reasons for the split of the kingdom.
After the return from the Babylonian exile Ezra and Nehemiah rebuild the Temple, since nothing has been left of it.
King Herod
Then “The Great Builder” Herod arrives on the scene. He carries out his grandiose engineering project similar to other large-scale projects and builds a gigantic, glorious Temple. To safeguard the building and keeping order he surrounds it with sentry towers.
The Western Wall, the most sacred remnant for the Jewish world is part of the supporting walls of Temple Mount. These walls have surrounded Temple Mount. We will visit the Western Wall and the nearby area.
The Jewish Quarter
The visit takes us to the Jewish Quarter in the Old City, but also to the historically and archeologically famous wide City Walls. Their discovery ended the age-old dispute between two factions concerning the actual dimensions of the Old City.
The trip will be adjusted to personal points of reference, according to the subjects and their importance.
